Why did you want to become a hair and makeup artist?
I grew up as a fairly creative child. I loved to draw, paint and create. I then discovered make-up as another art form when I was around 15. I loved that it could be used to express creativity and transform a face or body into anything you can dream of.
What has been your biggest ‘pinch me’ moment in your career so far?
My biggest pinch me moment so far was seeing my work featured in Lita Magazine for the first time. Holding the magazine in my hand and seeing my work was an amazing feeling!
As a freelance artist you travel for work, what has been your favourite job due to location?
As a freelance artist I do travel around Sydney for work. One of my favourite locations I have worked at was the QT Sydney Hotel for the Lita Magazine ‘Disco Inferno’ Editorial. The hotel was such a fun, quirky place to shoot in.
What do you love most about being a makeup artist?
My favourite part about being a make-up artist is being able to express my creativity in so many different ways. When doing creative shoots, I love seeing a vision I have had in my head come to life. When I am doing make-up for weddings and events, I love seeing my client happy and confident at the end of their appointment. It is such a great feeling!
What’s a common makeup question you get asked from clients?
A question I get asked a lot is “What is your favourite foundation?”. It is hard to narrow my favourite foundations down, as there are so many great formulas out there. It all depends on what look your want, and what your skin type is. Some of my favourites that are staples in my kit are MAC Studio Fix Fluid (Full coverage, oil-control and demi-matte finish.)
Nars Sheer Glow Foundation (Buildable coverage, hydrating and a skin-like to glowy finish.)
and MAC Face and Body Foundation (Sheer coverage, hydrating and dewy finish. Perfect on it’s own or for mixing into other foundations!)
Who’s your ultimate icon you would you love to do their makeup?
I always dream of working with somebody like Lady Gaga. I feel like she would not only be a super fun and genuine person, but her make-up looks are always unique and quirky. I would love to be able unleash all my creative ideas on her.
Who inspires you in the makeup industry?
Describe your hairs texture?
I would describe my hair as fairly straight, flat and relatively healthy. Sometimes my hair can go a little fuzzy.
What hair products or tools do you use on a regular basis to keep your hair healthy?
I love the brand EVO. I use their gluttony shampoo to help with adding more volume to my hair.
I also love to use the EVO hydrating mask and Olaplex Hair Perfecter No.3 once a week to keep my hair healthy and strong.
What is your signature hair and makeup look?
My signature hair and make-up look would be glowy, bronzy make-up and voluminous waves.
What hair styling products do you use regularly on yourself and why?
I use a Muk Curl Stick to add waves and volume to my hair.
I always finish my hair with a volumizing powder like the EVO Haze Styling Powder or something to add a more beachy texture like the Bumble and Bumble Dry Spun Texture Spray.
If my hair is looking a little dry or frizzy, I add a bit of the Wella Light Luminous Reflective Oil.
What skincare and makeup products are your favs at the moment?
At the moment I am absolutely loving the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Pink Juice Moisturiser. It is so light but is packed with hyaluronic acid to keep my skin hydrated all day.
I also love the Eve Lom Rescue Mask for when my skin is breaking out.
Make-up wise I am obsessed the Hourglass Scattered Lights Glitter Eyeshadows lately. My favourite colour is ‘Ray’.
What is your most requested makeup look from clients?
My most requested make-up look would be glowing skin, bronzy eyes and a smokey liner. My clients also love a fluffy brow as much as I do!
What are your favourite hair styling tools?
My favourite hair styling tools are the Muk Curl Stick as it comes with 3 different sized barrels, and the GHD Gold Professional Styler.
What hair styling products are used in your professional kit daily?
I always use the De Lorenzo Defence Extinguish Thermal Spray to protect my clients hair.
In my professional kit I also use the EVO Haze Styling Powder and Wella Light Luminous Reflective Oil. For longevity, I use the Schwarzkopf Extra Care Strong Hold Hair Spray.
What hair and makeup trends are you loving at the moment?
I am absolutely loving bold hair accessories lately! Nothing like a cute head scarf, headband or hair clip to funk up your look. My favourite make-up trends lately is the dewy skin look, faux freckles and fluffy eyebrows!
What is a professional makeup tip or trick you would like to share?
My favourite trick I have picked up is using an eye lash primer in the brows. I use the MAC False Lash Maximiser in my eyebrows for an extra fluffy and thick look. I find it holds better than a regular brow gel too.
Where do you shop online for a new outfit for a special event?
I love shopping on The Iconic. There is so much variety and everything is delivered so quickly.
Who are your fashion muses?
My current fashion muses are Blake Lively, Gigi Hadid, Zendaya and Elsa Hosk.
How would you style a Beau.Mane hair accessory in your hair for an event?
I currently have short hair, so I would add a lot of volume and waves to my hair and flip it on the side. Depending on the style I would clip 2 or more different styles together on one side to hold my hair behind my ear. I love this hairstyle below by Natalie Anne.
